The ADHD research gap has cost women decades of misdiagnosis. Rhythm is closing it.
Around 3 to 5% of women live with ADHD, yet most research and digital interventions are built from male presentations. Women are diagnosed late, misdiagnosed often, and frequently left without support that reflects how the condition actually presents in them. No digital tools currently address how ADHD interplays with emotional regulation, and hormonal health, leaving millions of women without practical support for a monthly pattern many report as among their most disabling experiences.
Developed by Penny Day, Chief Operating Officer of XR Therapeutics, Rhythm connects the relationship between hormones, emotional dysregulation, and attention in a single app, helping women understand their personal patterns, learn regulation strategies, and approach their experience with greater self-awareness. The goal is practical: feeling more in control, day to day, across the cycle.
“My vision for Rhythm is to help women with ADHD better understand their own rhythm - connect the dots between hormones, attention and emotional regulation. If they can recognise their patterns and anticipate challenges, they are likely to feel a stronger sense of control in their daily lives.”
The pilot app includes cycle tracking integrated with mood, focus, and energy logs, personalised insights and predictions explaining how hormonal phases may influence emotional regulation and attention, evidence-based regulation tools including guided breathing, grounding exercises, and journalling prompts, educational content on the ADHD-hormone interaction, and cycle-phase-aligned push notifications with timely self-care strategies.
Rhythm draws on Penny Day's technical expertise in clinical digital health, lived experience of ADHD, and a strong network of clinical and research collaborators. It addresses a gap that is simultaneously under-researched and acutely felt by a large group of women.
